Castle Vineyard

Wine-growing on the Riegersburg dates back to the reign of the “Gallerin”. In 1681 the vineyard was described for the first time, speaking of a harvest of about “15 Startin” then. The vine pest brought then a sudden end to wine-growing.
In 1987 the vineyard was revitalised. In 2006 the wine-growers Ferdinand Bernhart, Franz J.  Hutter and ham producer Gottfried F. Fink joined forces to form the “Burgweinbau Riegersburg Tenants Community” and took over the vineyard. Now they produce top quality wines on the 3 hectares of volcanic rock.

From the first cut in spring to the continuous inspection throughout the whole summer and until the harvest by hand in autumn - the knowledge and profound experience of “Ferdl” turn the grape in the vineyard into something special.

The family business has been producing Styrian wine for more than 250 years. With the help of modern cellar-technique and Franz’s knowledge we improve the grapes at the Riegersburg to delicate Castle Wine.
