The Knights of Riegersburg

The knights troupe “The Knights of Riegersburg” was founded in 2006 by Ewald Spörk, the black and red knight from the Birkenhof. From the very beginning the mounted contest came to the fore because Ewald Spörk is one of the best horsemen in the volcanic land. Already in 1987 at the big Regional Exhibition “Witches and Magicians” he was the first to venture this highly dangerous tournament ride towards another man...

Today the troupe consists of up to 15 performers who produce weapons, costumes and suits of armour, for the most part according to original models. Knight Siegfried, the Hageckher is a real display of the medieval lifestyle. He also manufactures different articles of daily use from the High Middle Ages, such as chests etc.

Damsels and noble ladies of stunning beauty belong to the troupe as well as a herald,
swordsmen and grooms. Since 2008 there are also some Saracen-horsemen with turbans and scimitars, etc.

However, the war horses are the heart of the troupe (six of them are on the picture on the right), and they are often accompanied by ponies.

The Knights of Riegersburg offer great children’s programmes too, such as pony-riding, knights’ training with wooden weapons, and so on.

By arrangement, we are also accompanied by falcons from the falconries of Riegersburg which perform a show on horseback.
